I have always been there,
waiting patiently, silently wanting to be known,
to be considered as something precious to you.

Always in the background,
I painfully watched in muted silence
as you embraced others in your hands
and nonchalantly ignored me on a daily basis.

From there, I started standing taller,
sprouting everywhere within your vision,
anxiously hoping that one day
you would notice me and love and adore me
like you did with all the others.

That was until one day, you saw her
standing out of the crowd like no other.
That sly devilish red beauty--enchanting you
with her majestic prettiness as her thorns
dig into you, capturing your mind in her grasp,
never letting you go.

It was then I realized--you will never
notice plain little ol’ me,
not as long as that devilish beauty has you.  
With that in mind, I tried my hardest to pull
away--to separate you from myself.

But for some reason, I couldn’t
bear to tear myself from you.
I treasure you too much to cast away,
no matter if you see me or not.

And so I will stand as tall as I can,
silently and agonizingly by your side,
growing everywhere, no matter unwanted or ignored,
in the background with the shadows of your mind
as your forever, valueless and ignored, little weed.
